"The boys keep surprising me"

In football, KRC Genk were the last team to advance to the quarter-finals after beating Standard 1-0. Two second-division clubs managed to advance to the last 8: Sint-Truiden and Oostende. The biggest surprise was the fact that Club Bruges were ousted by their modest neighbours Cercle.
Jelle Vossen (in blue) scored the only goal of the match just after the break.

It was once again the Belgian striker Jelle Vossen that made the day for KRC Genk in the match against Standard. Genk had lost to the Walloon team not so long ago in the league, which triggered extra motivation with the Limburgers. Jelle Vossen's goal made the difference: 1-0. Genk coach Mario Been was happy with the outcome:"The boys keep surprising me. They make a very fit impression." Together with Anderlecht, KRC Genk are the only team left playing on three stages: the title race in the domestic league, the European Cup and the Belgian Cup.

These are the quarter-finals:

  • Zulte Waregem - KRC Genk
  • AA Gent - Anderlecht
  • Sint-Truiden (II) - KV Kortrijk
  • Cercle Brugge - Oostende (II)

First legs to be played on 12/12, second legs scheduled for 16/1.
