Anderlecht extends lead at the top

A Ronald Vargas goal just a minute from time was enough to give Sporting Anderlecht a 2-1 victory in their game against bottom club Cercle Brugge on Saturday evening. The Belgian Champions are now six points clear at the top.

Anderlecht’s win comes despite them having gone behind after Benkenga put the visitors 1-0 up two minutes from half time.

However, Sporting were given a penalty when Mbokani was brought down inside the box and Biglia scored from the spot on 71 minutes.

Gillet seemed to have headed Anderlecht to victory. However, his goal was not given as the referee had already blown for a penalty. Bigila missed from his second spot kick of the night and the score remained 1-1.

However, a Vargas scored on the rebound and Anderlecht take all three points. Sporting Anderlecht is top of the league and now has 40 points from 18 games. Cercle Brugge remains bottom on 11 points.
