Security lapse on Belgian Railways’ website

A document containing personal information about numerous customers of the Belgian rail company NMBS was made temporarily available on the company’s website. Speaking about the security lapse, the NMBS spokesman Thierry Ney told the VRT that “Someone from outside the NMBS has made improper use of the website and discovered “tricks” that can be used to reveal this kind of information.”

"We acted as soon as we found out. The information is no longer accessible and website has been secured.” Mr Ney is also keen to stress that the information was not accessible though “normal use” of his company’s site

The rail company will launch an investigation into exactly what happened and what measures need to be taken to prevent the same thing happening in the future.
