4 Belgians in The Guardian's soccer Top 100

The end of the year is traditionally a time for drawing up lists. This is also what has happened at the English newspaper The Guardian where a panel of experts has listed the 100 best football players in the world. Believe it or not, but the list includes four Belgians.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi features in first place followed by Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. Xavi, Iniesta en Ibrahimovic are next.

All four Belgians featured are currently playing in the English Premier League: Vincent Kompany, Eden Hazard, Marouane Fellaini and Moussa Dembele.

Manchester City's Vincent Kompany is the highest ranked Belgian in 23rd position. Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos are the only defenders who are ranked higher.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard features in 58th place. Everton's Marouane Fellaini occurs two places lower on the 60th spot. Totteham's Moussa Dembele is in 91st place.

Kompany isn't the highest ranked player ever to play in Belgium. Yaya Touré, formerly of Beveren and now playing for Manchester City, is in ninth place. Victor Wanyama, formerly of Beerschot and now with Scotland's Celtic, is ranked 81st.

The Guardian's football players' Top 100 was compiled by 11 international experts.
