Belgium not ready for European driving licence

Belgium is not ready to start with the introduction of the first new European driving licences. Normally, this should have happened around this time, but the first licences will only be issued in May.

The new European driving licence was presented in 2010. It has the look and feel of a credit card, and will be introduced in all the different European member states.

The aim was to launch the driving licence in Belgium around this time, but Belgium is not ready for this and only expects to issue the first licences around May. A lot of time was lost with finding the best supplier. The Belgian authorities should not panic though: they have 20 years to replace all paper versions by new ones.
