Antwerp: "Having fun's been banned"

A police officer in Antwerp drew up a police report after a group of youngsters threw snowballs at his car. The youngsters won't have to pay a fine, but Antwerp police's youth intervention team will pay a visit to their homes.

The youngsters were playing in the snow on a square in Berchem when one of their number threw a snowball at a moving vehicle. One of the youngsters told Antwerp TV that the snowball hit the car's rear wheel.

One of the car's occupants turned out to be a police officer. He stepped out and checked the youngsters’ identity cards. He told them that he would do his utmost to ensure that they were not fined.

A fine is not on the way, but Antwerp police's youth intervention team is. It will pay a visit to the youngsters' homes for a chat. The youngsters think that this is going a bit far.

"Nowadays having fun is banned" one of the youngsters told Antwerp TV.

Antwerp police didn't want to respond on camera to the TV station, but said that the officer judged the situation to be dangerous and that the youngsters "should be happy" that they get off with it like this.
