Eden Hazard's brother scores in "unexpected" top match

In football, the season's revelations Sporting Lokeren and Zulte Waregem shared the points (1-1) on a cold Saturday evening. Club Bruges picked up their first win of the new year, while KRC Genk confirmed their top-6 ambitions with a win at Beerschot. The Antwerp team remains in deep trouble 4 games before the end of the competition's first phase.

You could hardly call Lokeren-Zulte Waregem a clash of the titans, but nevertheless the match opposed the present numbers 2 and 3 of the top flight. Zulte Waregem climbed ahead before the break when Thorgan Hazard, the younger brother of Chelsea's Eden Hazard, scored. However, Sporting Lokeren, the other revelations of the present competition, levelled the score after the break through Spain's newcomer Walter Fernandez (photo).

Thorgan Hazard, who is on loan from Chelsea, played an excellent match and scored with a thundering long-range shot. "True, it was a beautiful goal. We didn't play our best match of the season but you know, Lokeren is a good team, a strong block. It was a tactical game, we are happy with the draw."Zulte Waregem extended their unbeaten run to 14 matches.

Club Brugge - OH Leuven 3-1

Club Bruges were relieved to celebrate their first win of the new year. Bruges had the better chances before the break, but OHL stunned the hosts just after the break when former Bruges player Karel Geraerts scored 0-1. In 2 minutes' time, Bruges turned the tables completely, climbing ahead through goals by Maxime Lestienne and Lior Refaelov. Ivan Trickovski put the icing on the cake for the home fans 7 minutes from time, 3-1. It's the first win in 4 matches for the ambitious Bruges team, after only picking up 2 points in their last 3 matches.

Beerschot - KRC Genk 0-2

RC Genk took an easy win in Antwerp, beating Beerschot with one goal in each half. Genk's top scorer Jelle Vossen scored both goals, leaving the Rats - as the Beerschot players are dubbed - in last-but-one position of the table. Genk confirmed their play-off I ambitions and keep their place in the top-6.

KV Kortrijk and KV Mechelen keep their hopes up

In other action, KV Kortrijk downed AA Gent 1-0, stopping the short-lived Ghent revival and holding on to their play-off I hopes. Kortrijk are in 7th place, 5 points behind the number 6, Club Bruges (the top-6 will go to play-off I for the title).

The same goes for KV Mechelen. "Malinwa" sent bottom-of-the-table Cercle Brugge packing (2-0) and are equal with KV Kortrijk in 6th place. Charleroi had a very important win in the battle against relegation, beating Lierse 1-0.
