Late goal seals it for Zulte Waregem

Second-placed Zulte Waregem has moved up to just three points behind the league-leaders Sporting Anderlecht after a 90th minute goal saw them beat Sporting Charleroi 1-0 on Sunday evening. The match had been postponed as a result of last weekend’s snow. Despite the poor state of the pitch the match was not lacking in pace.

Zulte Waragem’s first big chance of the game came on 10 minutes when Mijusko Bojovic headed just over Michalis Sifakis’ goal. However, Sporting Charleroi then became the better side, putting Zulte Waregem under no little pressure. On the half hour a blunder by the Zulte Waregem keeper Sammy Bossut almost cost the visitors dear.

The second half saw a great chance for Charleroi’s Pollet, but an alert Bossut was on hand to keep the score level. At the other end, Sifakis shot just over from a Franck Berrier free kick.

There were also great chances for Charleroi’s Rossini and Francis N'Ganga. The match seemed to be heading for a draw when Zulte Waregem’s Senegalese strike Mbaye Laye made it 1-0 to the visitors on 90 minutes.

Zulte Waregem is second in the league with 60 points from 28 games. Sporting Charleroi is 12th with 30 points.
