Coldest March night since 1900

Thursday night will go down as being the coldest so far this winter. Temperatures of -17°C were recorded at the weather station at Elsenborn in the German-speaking East of Liège Province.

Accord to weather experts at the RMI in Ukkel (Greater Brussels), the extremely cold temperatures have come about as a result of a combination of snow lying on the ground, clear skies , little wind and stagnant polar air.

We would have to go back one hundred and thirteen years to 1900 to find a March night that was colder than Thursday.
