Club Brugge victorious over unfocused Anderlecht

Club Brugge have triumphed in one of the highlights of the Belgian soccer calendar. Playing in front of a home crowd the West Flemings dispatched Anderlecht 2 - 1 reinforcing their chances of a place in Europe next season.

Anderlecht dominated the opening stage of the match, but when Kljestan lost control of the ball Lestienne saw his opportunity to score. The Bruges Army erupted.

During the home match Anderlecht lost their advantage during the first half. The Brusselers were determined not to see any repeat. They maintained good control of the ball, but it was a skillful Bruges that made the chances.

Lestienne was man of the match scoring a second time in the 62nd minute. Understandibly, the Bruges Army erupted again. Anderlecht's dismal fate seemed settled, but minutes later Bruno assisted by Mbokani scored thanks to a header.

Surprisingly, the match was now wide open once again, but Mbokani crucially missed a penalty in the closing minutes of the match deciding Anderlecht's fate. For champions Anderlecht this was their third defeat in the Play-Off I competition.

Club Brugge are now third in Play-Off I and deservedly have the prospect of a place in the Europa League. Anderlecht are second behind Zulte Waregem.

Earlier in Play-Off I Lokeren drew 0-0 at home against Genk. In Play-Off IIA AA Gent beat Kortrijk at home 1-0, while Mons travelled to Lierse to win 1-0.

In Play-Off IIB KV Mechelen thrashed Waasland Beveren at home 2-0, while OH Leuven v Charleroi was another goalless draw.
