Australian Fleming scoops four Billboard Awards

Wouter De Backer a.k.a. Gotye has scooped prizes in no fewer than four categories at this year’s Billboard Awards. The 23-year-old Bruges (West Flanders) -born singer emigrated with his family to Australia when he was just two-years old.

At the Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, Gotye won the award in the categories Top 100, Rock Song, Radio Song and Streaming Song for his hit “Somebody that I used to know” that topped the chart last year.

The Billboard Awards took into account sales and airplay between March 2012 and March this year.

Taylor Swift sweeps the board

Although Gotye and Rhinana both did well to take four awards, the star of the evening was without a doubt the American country singer Taylor Swift. With no fewer than 3.7 sales for her single “Red”, she took eight awards including Artist of the Year, Most Popular Album and Most Popular Female Singer.

Prince was given the Icon Award for his carrier that spans more three decades. Another US artist that started out in the 1980’s Madonna won two awards: Best Tour and Best Female Dancer.
