Belgian scores hat-trick in ten-goal thriller

The Belgian international Romelu Lukaku played a starring role in West Brom’s five-all draw against the new English football champions’ Manchester United. In the last match of the season the 20-year-old striker, known to his teammates as “Big Rom” scored a second half hat trick to ensure that the Baggies salvaged a point.

The spectacular game was Manchester United’s last with Sir Alex Fergusson at the helm. The 71-year-old Scot is retiring as Manager at United after 27 seasons and 1,500 games in charge. The game seemed to be becoming a gala match for Sir Alex with United going 3-0 up after just half an hour of play.

However, West Brom pulled one back through Morrison five minutes from half time. The second half was just five minutes old when Lukaku scored the first of his three goals.

Goals from van Persie and Hermandez put United 5-2. However, three goals in six minutes (two from Lukaku and one from Mulumbu) were enough to give West Brom a draw and make Big Rom the hero of the hour among the Black Country fans. Romelu Lukaku is currently on loan to West Brom from Chelsea.
