Flemish cash for British and German cemeteries

The Flemish government has earmarked almost 450,000 euros for maintenance and restoration works in two British and four German military cemeteries in West-Flanders. This was announced by the Flemish Heritage Minister Geert Bourgeois (nationalist). The decision is linked to the project "100 years Great War".

The cemeteries are now being maintained by foreign organisations: the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for the British graves, and the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge for German graves. They can count on some extra money now.

The Flemish subsidies will go to the Farm Cemetery in Heuvelland and the Mendighem Military Cemetery in Poperinge, and to German cemeteries in Vladslo, Langemark/Poelkapelle, Menen and Hooglede.
