It is not yet clear when this will be done. Ms Campbell-Bauer follows on from Howard Gutman whose mandate ended on 23 July. Like her predecessor, Washington’s new woman in Brussels was a campaign fund-raiser for President Obama.

According to the American news channel CNN, she raised 500,000 US dollar for the Obama campaign in 2012. This is on top of the more than 200,000 dollar that she raised for the Obama campaign in 2008.

During both campaigns Ms Campbell-Bauer had a seat on the Democrats’ National Campaign Finance Committee. Between 2008-2012 she was a member of Democrats’ National Committee.

In the 1980’s and early 1990, she had a career in the media.
