KV Kortrijk salvages point with late penalty

In the first Belgian First Division match of the weekend KV Kortrijk drew three-all at home against Sporting Lokeren. Lokeren went on the offensive early on and came close to going one-up when Nill De Pauw headed onto the crossbar from a Jordan Ramacle pass.

At the other end Mustapha Oussalah had a chance to put the home side ahead, but his bungled shot fail to find the goal. Lokeren’s Ramacle created another great chance for his teammate Hans Vanaken to open the scoring. However Vanaken’s shot went wide.

The first half was marked by two penalty appeals for handball; one each from both teams. However, Referee Boucaut waved play on both occasions. The first half ended goalless.

The second half couldn’t have been more different with no fewer than six goals being scored. Lokeren took the lead 7 minutes in through a Hamdi Harbaoui (photo) header. Ivan Santini (top photo) shot KV Kortrijk level just two minutes later.

Two goals in two minutes from Taravel (62 minutes) and Ramacle (64 minutes) seemed to have sealed it for the visitors.

However, Santini’s goal for Kortrijk on 83 minutes made for an excite climax to the game. Sporting Lokeren brought in Trompet for Ramacle on 90 minutes.

It was Trompet that was responsible for the incident that lead to KV Kortrijk being awarded a penalty in the third minute of injury time. Santini completed his hat trick with the spot kick and an exciting second half ended with the score all square at 3-3.

Sporting Lokeren is still top of the league with 7 points from 3 games. KV Kortrijk has 4 points from 3 games.
