Another disappointment for FC Bruges

The West-Flemish derby between Club Brugge and Zulte Waregem ended in a draw (1-1). It was a new disappointment for Bruges, after suffering a shock exit in Europe last Thursday. For Zulte Waregem, it was a good result after some turbulent weeks.

"We focus 100% on the domestic competition and on the Cup now", Bruges coach Carlos Garrido of Spain told reporters after the early exit in the Europa League against modest Slask Wroclaw. Pressure is mounting on the coach after some disappointing results, also in the Belgian league. The first match after this defeat had to be won, but ended in a new disappointment: 1-1.

Club Bruges took the lead when veteran Timmy Simons converted a penalty in the first quarter of the match, 1-0. Zulte Waregem also claimed a penalty, but didn't get one, while an Mbaye Leye shot was saved on the line by Bruges striker Tom De Sutter. Bruges also came close in a tense end to the match, but in-form Maxime Lestienne hit the post. The result leaves both Bruges and Z.Waregem with 7 points from 3 matches.

The only two teams with the maximum, KRC Genk and Standard, are in tonight's clash. Before that, Anderlecht and AA Gent are playing the second match in this "Super Sunday".
