Man loses both legs at Ostend Station

A 29-year old man has lost both legs as a result of an accident at Ostend Station. The young man's two legs ended up under a train at around 1am in the morning. The victim was drunk at the time.

The incident happened when the 29-year-old was sitting on the edge of the platform with his two legs hanging over the side. The last but one train of the day had just entered the station. When the train pulled back out of the station the man, who hails from Namur was injured. He was sitting on the edge of the platform with a bottle of liquor and a pouch of tobacco in his hands.

The man has lost both legs below the knee. His life is not in any danger.

A spokesman for the train company told the VRT that the man hadn't expected the train to move at all, but insisted his actions had brought the injuries upon himself.
