Brussels police launch massive checks on motorists

Brussels police on Saturday carried out massive checks to see whether motorists had belted up and to make sure children's seats had been properly installed.

The police stopped 310 motorists who were not wearing a seat belt. 19 drivers were on the roads with a children's seat that hadn't been properly fitted.

One motorist was obliged to hand in his licence for a fortnight: he wasn't belted up, was using a mobile phone handset while driving and had two children in the car that weren't belted up either.

In all 100 police officers took part in the checks across the Brussels Region.
