Standard extend winning streak

In football, Standard extended their winning streak in the domestic competition. The Reds beat revelations Sporting Lokeren 2-1 at Sclessin and won all of their 8 matches so far. Zulte Waregem moved past OH Leuven (4-2), while KRC Genk were held to a draw by Waasland-Beveren (0-0).

Lokeren made Standard work hard for their money. At 1-all, Michy Batshuayi (photo) made the winning-goal for the Reds even before the break. As Standard failed to make it 3-1 in the second half, it remained a tense match until the final minutes. "This was Champions League football", Standard coach Guy Luzon told reporters after the match.

Zulte Waregem also had to work hard against modest OH Leuven, as the visitors from Leuven climbed ahead twice. It was only in the final 10 minutes that Zulte Waregem managed to move past their opponents, scoring twice and going from 2-all to 4-2.

Cup winners KRC Genk, that stunned Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League last Thursday, were held to a disappointing draw at Waasland-Beveren.
