Anderlecht thrash Eupen to climb out of the doldrums

In football, the 16 top-flight clubs entered the scene in Wednesday's round of 32 of the Belgian Cup. Anderlecht enjoyed a confidence-boosting 7-0 thrashing of second-division Eupen. The only top-flight club to suffer a shock exit was RAEC Mons.

After two defeats - in the Champions League, Anderlecht were downed by Benfica while 5 days later, they were humiliated in the domestic competition losing the classic against FC Bruges 4-0 - Anderlecht shook off their worries by beating Eupen 7-0. It was the biggest victory of the evening.

There were no matches between top-flight clubs as these had enjoyed a seeded status when the draw was made. There was only one underdog that managed to stun a top-flight team: second-division Westerlo ousted RAEC Mons after penalties (4-3). Westerlo will meet... Anderlecht in the round of 16, which is scheduled for 4 December.
