KRC Genk beaten at home

KRC Genk missed out on an opportunity to claim third place in the Belgian First Division after at 2-0 home defeat against Sporting Lokeren. The result came despite Sporting Lokeren playing the entire second half down to ten men after Patosi was sent off for his second bookable offence on the stroke of half time.

Lokeren’s first goal came on 9 minutes when Dutra headed home a Patosi cross. Genk has a golden opportunity to equalise ten minutes later when they were awarded a penalty for hands inside the box by Lokeren’s Odoi.

However, Jelle Vossen’s effort was saved by the Lokeren keeper Copa. Sporting Lokeren went two-up 10 minutes from half time through Vanaken.

Despite playing the second half with a man less, Sporting Lokeren were able to maintain their lead and the match ended 2-0. The result sees Lokeren move up to sixth place with 29 points for 18 games. KRC Genk is fifth with 35.
