Goals galore in an evening full of surprises

In football, the 27th day of play was one of bizarre twists and surprises. Ambitious Zulte Waregem were stunned by Charleroi, while KV Kortrijk suffered a shock defeat against bottom-of-the-table RAEC Mons. Cercle were trailing 0-2 some 5 minutes from time against KV Mechelen, but took it 3-2 anyway in a sensational end to the match.

Cup finalists Zulte Waregem were the favourites to pick up another win at Mambour, in Charleroi. The home team had lost its previous 4 matches and hardly managed to score a goal after the winter break. However, to everybody's surprise, Charleroi scored 3 times, sending Zulte Waregem back to West-Flanders empty-handed (3-2) (photo: Francois opens the score for Charleroi).

Cercle Brugge looked set for a home defeat in Bruges against KV Mechelen, when they were trailing 0-2 after 87 minutes. Goals by Kabananga, Buyl and Naudts (4 minutes into extra time) marked a sensational end to the match, as Cercle scored 3 in 7 minutes' time.

KV Kortrijk hoped they would be in for a comfortable win against bottom-of-the-table RAEC Mons, but the Hainaut team shocked the home fans by taking it 1-2 in Kortrijk. However, even this pretty win can't lift Mons out of trouble, as the team looks almost certain to end the season in last place, which means Mons will automatically relegated.

5 goals also in the tie at the coast, between KV Oostende and in-form Lierse SK (3-2). The win (almost certainly) secures newly-promoted KV Oostende a prolonged stay in the top-flight, which was the team's main objective this season.
