More than 8 million to vote on May 25

Figures released by the Interior Minister Joëlle Milquet (Francophone Christian democrat) show that 8,000,458 Belgians will be voting in the elections on 25 May. The electoral registers for the federal, regional and European elections have been compiled. 7.871,000 voters (3.8 million men and 4 million women) living in Belgium will be obliged to vote on May 25.

In addition to this 130,000 Belgians living abroad will be able to vote for candidates standing for the Federal Parliament.

Around 4.8 voters in Flanders plus anyone voting for Dutch-speaking candidates for the Brussels Regional Parliament will be able to vote for candidates for the Flemish Parliament. In Brussels 580,000 voters will elect 89 members of the Brussels Regional Parliament.

68,771 Europeans to vote for Euro MPs here

A total of 68,771 foreigners from other EU member states have registered to vote in the European elections here. Almost 20,000 of these live in the Flemish region, 15,500 in the Brussels-Capital Region, 32,000 in Wallonia (excluding the 9 German-speaking municipalities) and 1,200 in the 9 German-speaking municipalities in the East of Liège province.
