Onwards and upwards for Zulte Waregem

Zulte Waregem continue their excellent run of form in the First Division play-offs. Francky Dury’s men made it three straights victory’s with a 2-1 home win against Club Brugge. The result sees Zulte Waregem leapfrog over Club Brugge into second place. With a strong home record to defend Zulte Waregem was keen to prove its worth against a Club Brugge side still reeling from its humiliation at Anderlecht last weekend.

Conté headed just wide and De Fauw’s goal was disallowed for being (just) offside. Zulte Waregem’s opening goal fell just before half time when Verboom provided Naessen with all he needed to put the home side one-up.

Zulte Waregem defended well early in the second half. However, the game turned in Club Brugge’s favour when Referee Boucaut gave Kums a red card for his second bookable offence of the game.

Club Brugge pushed forward and only some excellent work from the Zulte Waregem keeper Bossut prevented Lestienne from equalising. In the end it was Lestienne’s partner up front De Sutter (photo) that brought the visitors level 4 minutes from time.

The match appeared to be head for a draw when Thorgan Hazard scored the winning goal for Zulte Waregem in the second minute of injury time.

The result sees Zulte Waregem move up to within a point of the leaders Standard. Club Brugge is 4th.

OH Leuven given chance to stay up

In what turnout to be the final Play Off III game of the season Oud Heverlee Leuven won the chance to compete for a place in next season’s First Division in the Second Division Play Offs after a 2-0 win against RAEC Mons.

Mons now drop to the second division. OHL’s goals came from Petterson on 39 minutes and Ibou 15 minutes from time.

The turning point in the game came on 38 minutes when Flavien Le Postollec was sent off after having been booked twice.

Play Off II Group A

In play-off II Group A AA Gent enjoyed their first win in the play-offs, beating Waasland-Beveren 2-1. Clearly the change of coach has done the Buffaloes good. Waasland-Beveren took the lead on 23 minutes.

Kage equalised for the Buffaloes 5 minutes later. Zukanovic beautifully-place fee kick sealed it for the home side on 76 minutes.

In the other Group A match, it was a good night for KV Oostende. The West Flemings beat Lierse SK 2-0 and now lead the group with 7 points.

Play Off II Group B

In Play-off B KV Kortrijk continued their excellent run of form with a 4-1 home win against KV Mechelen. All the goals fell in the second half. Santini open the scoring for KV Kortrijk from the penalty spot on 58 minutes.

Chevalier made it 2-0 8 minutes later. Trajkovski pulled one back for KV Mechelen on 71 minutes. Pavolovic made it 3-1 on 77 minutes and Raman made it 4-1 7 minutes from time.

3 goals from Fauré (20,36 and 90 minutes) and a Talnmont goal on 29 minutes were enough to give Sporting Charleroi a 4-2 win away at Cercle Brugge.

Cercle’s goals came from Buysse on 32 minutes and a Tim Smolders penalty on 68 minutes.

Cercle played most of the second half with 10 men after Hans Cornelis was sent off on 53 minutes. KV Kortrijk and Sporting Charleroi lead Group B with 7 points each.
