The Queen Elisabeth Competition gets under way

The Queen Elisabeth Competition gets under in the Flagey Art’s Centre in the Brussels municipality of Elsene on Wednesday afternoon. 64 candidates from the four corners of world will take part in this year’s Queen Elisabeth Competition.

This year it is the turn of vocalists to display their talents. Among those that are competing between 14 and 31 May are 6 Belgians.
The other 58 competitors come from no fewer than 26 countries.

Two of the Belgians will sing on the opening day. The first round of the competition is being held in Studio 4 of the Flagey Arts’ Centre and will go on until Friday 16 May.

50 women and just 14 male vocalists are taking part. Among them are two bases, three baritones, seven tenors, two contra-tenors, an alto, eleven mezzo-sopranos and thirty-eight sopranos.
