A walk in the park as Everton striker Lukaku scores 3

The Belgian national football team has seen off Luxembourg in a friendly match on Monday evening. The Red Devils took it 5-1, with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku scoring a hat-trick. Adnan Januzaj made his first appearance for the Belgian national team. The win put Belgium back on the winning track, after a four-match sequence without a win. Belgium is gearing up for the Brazil World Cup by playing some friendly matches.

It's only 3 weeks before Belgium play their World Cup opener against Algeria. Everton striker Romelu Lukaku was in splendid form in Genk (Limburg) and proved he is an excellent replacement for injured striker Christian Benteke of Aston Villa.

Lukaku scored 3, with substitute Nacer Chadli and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne (on penalty) adding 2 more goals. National team coach Marc Wilmots fielded 3 debutants, including 19-year-old Manchester United Adnan Januzaj (picture below) who showed some of his excellent football skills.

Other players making their first appearance for Belgium were goalkeeper Sammy Bossut and striker Divock Origi of French club Lille. An Origi effort led to the Belgian penalty in the final minutes of the game.

No big conclusions should be drawn from the match, as Luxembourg did not really impress. Stronger opponents should provide a better view of the Belgian team's potential.
