Belgium: second highest taxes in Europe

The tax burden in Belgium rose to 45.4% of national output in 2012. Only Denmark today has higher tax levels.

The figures have just been released by the European Commission following an audit of European tax systems.

The last time people in Belgium were paying so much tax was during the 90's of the previous century. As a result of the recent increase Belgium overtakes Sweden in the Top 3.

Tax pressure in Belgium is high because both labour and capital are heavily taxed here.
