Belgian in first-round clash with Murray at Wimbledon

David Goffin can look forward to a first-round clash against defending champion Andy Murray at Wimbledon. Goffin is the only Belgian in the main draw in the men's singles competition, after his colleagues were all ousted in the qualifying rounds. Murray may start as the big favourite to win it, he'd better watch out for the brave Belgian though, who surprised a seeded player in 2012.

A hard nut to crack for David Goffin. That's the least you could say, after the 23-year-old Belgian was drawn against Andy Murray in his first-round match. Goffin had his best Wimbledon result in 2012, reaching the third round.

Both players never played against one another before. Goffin is the highest-ranked Belgian on the ATP world list, just outside the top-100 on 104. The Francophone Belgian enjoyed his best season two years ago, making it into the 4th round at Roland Garros, only to be defeated by Roger Federer. Goffin had entered the main draw as lucky loser and was the first player in this position to get this far in 17 years. It earned him a ticket for the Olympic Games in London.

Also in 2012, he was granted a wildcard in Wimbledon. He first surprised Bernard Tomic, but was stopped in the 3rd round by Mardy Fish.
