ExxonMobil invests a billion in port of Antwerp

It was a rather strange day to make the announcement, but within hours of Belgium kicking the USA out of the World Cup the American oil giant ExxonMobil announced investments of one billion dollars in an oil refinery in the Belgian port of Antwerp.

The investment, some 731 million euros at today's rate of exchange, is being made in a new unit that will help north Western Europe cover its energy needs. In its press release the US company says that the investment is being made in Belgium despite the challenging industrial climate.

The extra billion doubles ExxonMobil's investments in the port of Antwerp. The oil giant plans to spend 2 billion dollars in only ten years.
