Parts of De Haan inundated

The coastal municipality of De Haan was confronted with torrential rain on Friday morning. Fire services received a lot of telephone calls from local residents after a rain storm had caused local floods, with numerous streets and cellars being inundated.

Klemskerke and Vlissegem were badly hit. Four streets got flooded and 20 families were battling water problems, the Belgian news agency Belga reports.

The thunderstorm also caused damage as thunder struck twice. On one of these occasions, a house was set ablaze, but fire services managed to contain the fire quickly.

The thunderstorms inspired local residents to take pictures of the threatening skies.
