Muslim Executive strongly condemns IS acts

The Muslim Executive of Belgium (MEB) said in a press release it was "shocked by the crimes committed by Islamic State in Iraq", denouncing any kind of "executions and persecutions targeting religious minorities."

The Antwerp Burgomaster Bart De Wever had criticized MEB on Tuesday evening arguing they did not distance themselves enough from the latest atrocities by IS, including the decapitation of an American journalist. He urged MEB to take a clear stand on the matter.

The organisation representing the Muslims in Belgium eventually did react, pointing out that the criminal acts by IS have nothing to do with the Islam, which, on the contrary, puts forward values of fraternity, respect and peace. The MEB also "strongly condemns the activities of certain youngsters that support the Islamic State."
