Onwards and upwards for Sporting Charleroi

In the first of this weekend’s Belgian First Division matches, Sporting Charleroi enjoyed a 2-1 home victory against Zulte Waregem. The result sees the Zebras climb up to 6th place in the league, while Zulte Waregem’s recent poor form sees them remain next to bottom after their first 8 games.

Despite Zulte Waregem starting off the better side, Charleroi took the lead after just 6 minutes through Kitambala. Although the French-Congolese forward had several chances to make it 2-0 to the Zebras, he failed to do so and the half ended 1-0 in Charleroi’s favour.

A foul by N'Diaye on Tainmont saw Zulte Waregem go down to ten men on the stroke of half time. Despite being a man down, Zulte Waregem were able to draw level on 55 minutes through Troisi. It was his first goal in the Belgian league.

Charleroi’s Marcq was given his marching orders for his second bookable offence of the game on 71 minutes. Charleroi brought in Galvez and this paid off when he scored the winning on 85 minutes. Job done for the Zebras.
