Cercle sacks Staelens

The First Division football team Cercle Brugge have sacked their Coach Lorenzo Staelens. Saturday evening’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Waasland-Beveren proved to be the final straw. The Icelander Arnar Vidarsson will replace Lorenzo Staelens as Coach.

Lorenzo Staelens had been Head Coach at Cercle Brugge since April 2013. He managed to keep the West Flemings in the First Division in the 2012-2013 seasons. Last season Cercle finished 11th.
However, a poor start to the season that has seen Cercle take just 9 points from their first ten games force Cercle Brugge to make a decision about Staelens’ future with the club.

In a press statement released early on Monday afternoon Cercle Brugge said that "We would like to thank Lorenzo for his work over the years. We would also like to wish him much success in his further career.”

Cercle’s board has appointed Assistant Coach Arnar Vidarsson as Lorenzo Staelens’ successor.

Lorenzo Staelens is the third First Division coach to be sacked so far this season earlier in the season, Racing Genk sacked Emilo Ferrera and Lierse SK sacked.
