After a turbulent week, Standard were keen to give their fans something to smile about.
However, the first half of their game against Sevilla was more likely to send them to sleep than raise any smile. Devoid of chances and devoid of quality Standard and certainly Sevilla (who are 2nd in La Liga) played well below their potential.
The second half couldn’t have been more different with Standard really going for it and pushing forward. De Camargo came close, as did Faty.
Sevilla too had their chances with an effort Gameiro effort hitting the post and substitute Bacca shooting just over. Both Teixeira and Vincuis coming close. However it was not to be and the match ended goalless.
The result sees Standard 2nd in Group G with 4 points from 3 games. Sevilla is first with 5 points.
Last minute goals make for exciting climax
Club Brugge took just a point from their home game against FC Kopenhagen. Despite their being chances at both ends, the match seemed to heading for a goalless draw.
However, a 90th minute goal by Kopenhagen’s Amartey silence the Blue army and got the Danish fans singing.
Their joy was short lived though when Vázquez (photo) equalised in the third minute of injury time to make for a final score of 1-1. Club Brugge is now 2nd in Group B. FC Kopenhagen is 3rd.
Lokeren returns empty handed
The Belgian cup-winners Sporting Lokeren failed to take any points from their game away to the Turkish side Trabzonspor.
2 second half goals for the Turks by Yatabaré (55 minutes) and Constant (87 minutes) were more than enough to see off the East Flemings.
Sporting Lokeren have 3 points from 3 games and are 3rd in Group L. Trabzonspor are 2nd with 6 points.
