Substitutes win it for the Belgians

Belgium’s national football team the Red Devils won Wednesday evening’s friendly match &against Iceland by 3 goals to 1. The Man of the Match for the Belgians was without a doubt the Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois.

The first half was full of excitement with both keepers having their work cut out. Belgium took the lead on 11 minutes through Lombaerts, only for Finnbogason to score an equaliser for Iceland 2 minutes later.

Both teams smelled blood and pushed forward. Belgium’s An Axel Witsel effort was cleared from the line. At the other end, Courtois gave of his best to keep the Icelandic attack at bay.

Towards the end of the half, it was all Belgium. The Icelandic goalkeeper showed his worth saving a shot from Spurs' Vertonghen and a header from Aston Villa’s Benteke. Manchester United’s Januzaj’s free kick went just wide seconds before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw Lille’s Origi and Everton’s Lukaku join Benteke up front. Although the second half was less exciting than the first, the subs made the difference.

Origi made it 2-1 to Belgium on 62 minutes, while Lukaku made it 3-1 15 minutes later. Iceland had a great chance to pull one back saved by the excellent Courtois and the match ended 3-1 to Belgium.
