Victory for Anderecht draws for Standard and Genk

Sporting Anderlecht have gained ground on the league leaders Club Brugge after a convincing 3-0 home win against SK Lierse. Despite missing a host of players on African Cup duty as well as the Golden Boot Dennis Praet (injury) and Aleksandar Mitrović (suspended) Anderlecht made light work of beating bottom club Lierse SK by three goals to nil.

Anderlecht took the lead on 23 minutes through a Thielemans penalty. Lierse went down to 10 men on 37 minutes when Ntambwe was sent off for a foul on Thielemans. Anderlecht widened their lead through Dedoncker in the second minute of injury time to make for a half time score of 2-0.

An 80th minute goal by Alvarez made for a final score of 3-0 in Anderlecht’s favour. The result sees on 43 points, 2 points less than the league leaders Club Brugge. Lierse remain bottom with 14 points.

Another lacklustre performance by Standard

Standard de Liège could only manage a one-all draw away at Westerlo. Westerlo opened the scoring on 14 minutes through Koffi (photo), only for Faty to level the score on 20 minutes.

Westerlo’s Scheurmans was given a somewhat dubious red card on 4 minutes from time. However, despite being a man up Standard were unable to score a winning goal and the match ended 1-1.

The result sees Standard end the weekend in 6th place with 34 points from 22 games. Westerlo is 12th with 24 points.

Lokeren unlucky only to draw

Despite having the lion’s share of the chances, Sporting Lokeren could only manage a one-all draw against Racing Genk on Thursday evening. Racing Genk took the lead on 2 minutes through Milinkovic-Savic.

However, De Pauw levelled the score on 15 minutes. Lokeren had plenty of chances to scoring a winning goal but luck was on Genk’s side and the game ended all square.

Racing Genk is 7th in the table with 33 points from 21 games. Sporting Lokeren is 8 with 30 points from 22 games.
