Alison Van Uytvanck knocked out in quarter-finals

The last Belgian still in the French Open Tennis Championships in Paris, Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 93), has lost her quarter-final against Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky (WTA 24). The match ended 6-4, 7-5 after 1 hour and 46 minutes of play.

It was the first match between Alision Van Uytvanck and Timea Bacsinszky of their respective careers. In the first set Timea Bacsinszky started strongly taking an early 3-0 lead.

Alision Van Uytvanck fought back from the 4th game. At 5-4 and 40/30 Timea Bacsinszky was able to take advantage of her first set ball to take the first set 6-4 after 39 minutes.

The second set was more finally balanced. There was little between the two players until the 11th game when Timea Bacsinszky took a 6-5 lead. The Swiss player finally took the set 7-5 and won a place in the semi-finals.

Alison Van Uytvanck’s quarter-final place will see her rise up the WTA-rankings. She will enter the top 50 and will overtake Kirsten Flipkens as Belgium’s best-ranked female tennis player.

Timea Bacsinszky will meet the American Serena Williams (WTA 1) in the semi-finals. Serena Williams beat the Italian Sara Errani (WTA 17) in two sets 6-1 and 6-3 in their quarter final match.
