Clijsters and Navratilova win Legends Doubles

Kim Clijsters and Martina Navratilova have won the Legends Ladies’ Doubles competition at the French Open in Paris. They beat the American duo of Lindsay Davenport and Mary Joe Fernandez in three sets.

Kim Clijsters, who celebrates her 32nd birthday on Monday and the 58-year-old American Martina Navratilova, were defending the title. They had already beaten Nathalia Tauziat and Sandrine Testud and Anastasia Myskina and Conchita Martinez in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively.

Although the Belgo-American duo lost the first set they were able to put things right in the second. An exciting third set was finely balanced. Clijsters and Navratilova were only able to force victory at the very end. The match ended 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 after 1 hour and 2 minutes of play.

The winners received their trophy from another Belgian tennis legend Justine Henin.
