Racing Genk make light work of KV Mechelen

In the first of this weekend’s First Division matches, Racing Genk enjoyed a 3-1 home win against KV Mechelen. The match was Genk’s fourth consecutive home win. Meanwhile, KV Mechelen have taken just one point from their first eight games of the season.

Genk were dangerous from the outset. Kebano (bottom photo) headed just wide on ten minutes. Five minutes later it was a Kebano cross that provided Igor De Camargo (top photo) with all he needed to head Racing Genk one-up.

The visitors only ever looked dangerous from set pieces. The Genk keeper Bizot made two good saves from efforts by Van Damme after Kosanovic free-kicks.

KV Mechelen started the second half on the offensive; however their positive attitude was not rewarded with an equalizer. On the contrary in fact. Kebano made it 2-0 on 52 minutes.

The KV Mechelen Coach Jankovic brought in fresh blood in the hope of salvaging something from the game. However, KV Mechelen was unable to create any danger in front of goal.

Half way through the second half Genk scored a lucky third goal after De Camargo’s shot was deflected into goal by Buyens. It was game over. However KV Mechelen were able to threaten in the closing stages of the game.

Kosanovic scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot two minutes from time to make for a final score of 3-1 to Racing Genk. The result sees Genk move up to 3rd place in the league with 14 points from 8 games.

KV Mechelen is 11 with 8 points. However, this could change depending on this weekend’s other results.
