Tottenham started strongly and took an early lead through Eriksen. However Anderlecht was not going to be outdone and Man of the Match Gillet floored the spurs keeper Lloris to make it 1-1 on 15 minutes.
Sporting Anderlecht’s midfield began to take more control of the match. Okaka had a chance to put Anderlecht ahead but his volley was blocked by Lloris.
The second half started sluggishly. Spurs brought on Harry Kane who forced a great save out of Proto.
The match missed flare. However, things soon heated up when the Anderlecht substitute Frank Acheampong handed his teammate Okaka the perfect scoring opportunity on a plate and it was 2-1 to Anderlecht with a quarter of an hour to go. Anderlecht looked at times shake but was able to hand on to its advantage.
The result sees Anderlecht in 3rd place in Group J with 4 points from 3 games. Spurs also have 4 points but are 2nd thanks to a superior goal difference.
Club Brugge throw away lead
Club Brugge drew their third Europa League group stage tie away at Legia Warsaw on Thursday evening. The West Flemings had taken a first half lead thanks to De fauw.
However, Kucharczyk’s goal seven minutes into the second half made for a full time score of one-all. The result sees Club Brugge bottom of their group D with 1 point from 3 games. Legia Warsaw also has 1 point, but is 3rd thanks to a superior goad difference.
