Anderlecht defeat FC Bruges in 'clásico'

FC Bruges have lost yet again in the classic 'clash of the titans' in Belgian football. Anderlecht took it 3-1 as Golden Shoe Dennis Praet found his best form, steering Anderlecht to a 3-0 lead. The defeat is leaving Bruges waiting for a league win at Anderlecht for 17 years now.

Anderlecht took the best start, with striker Stefano Okaka making it 1-0 on 12 minutes. The hosts lost the momentum after a strong opening quarter with Bruges taking over, but the visitors didn't manage to create good opportunities.

The match was also a physical battle. Bruges central defender Oscar Duarte and Anderlecht veteran defender Olivier Deschacht were both victims; Deschacht was losing a lot of blood after his eyebrow had been hit.

Anderlecht accelerated yet again after the break. Striker Imoh Ezekiel made his first for Anderlecht, with Dennis Praet adding a third one with a thundering shot going in via the bar. Before Club Brugge knew it, they were 3-0 and the match was lost. Diaby pulled one back, but that didn't really worry Anderlecht. The win allows Anderlecht to jump to first place.

Anderlecht snatch position from KV Oostende and AA Gent. The revelations travelled to champions Ghent and managed a 2-all draw in extra time, a major disappointment for AA Gent that had the virtual lead when they were 2-1 up.

Both AA Gent and Ostend (24 points) are 1 point behind leaders Anderlecht (25). Racing Genk and Zulte Waregem have 20; Club Brugge follow in 6th place with 19 points.
