Army on the streets "at least until 20 January"

Members of the Belgian armed forces will continue to guard sensitive locations at least for a further month. The Belgian government has approved the deployment of soldiers at least until 20 January 2016.

The decision was widely anticipated: Belgium's terror alert level remains at level 3, the second highest level that means that a terrorist outrage is likely.

In all 700 soldiers are deployed to guard potential targets.

OCAD, the Belgian government body that analyses the threat facing the country, intends to publish a new analysis soon. This will allow the government to decide whether to continue the deployment of members of the Belgian armed forces on our streets.
