Thriller in Anderlecht

In football, Anderlecht and Standard drew 3-all on Sunday evening after a spectacular match. Standard de Liège, desperately seeking a ticket for the top-6, threw away a lead on two occasions. Anderlecht meanwhile missed their chance to move closer to the leading duo Club Brugge and AA Gent.
Ivan Santini scored for Standard at Anderlecht, but it was not enough.

Round 28 it was in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, just 2 to go before the season-ending play-offs that will decide everything. Leaders Club Brugge suffered their first defeat after 7 wins in the domestic competition, losing 3-2 at RC Genk.

The Bruges hiccup allowed AA Gent to join Club Brugge in pole-position, after beating Sporting Lokeren in the East-Flemish derby 3-1. Defending champions AA Gent were under pressure, after losing 4 of their last 5 matches (Belgian Cup, domestic league and Champions League combined), but found back their better form on Friday.

Anderlecht and Standard de Liège played their 'classic' in Brussels, drawing 3-all. Standard led 1-2 half-time, but it should have been more. They paid it dear, as Anderlecht managed to climb back to 3-all. Anderlecht were also happy to avoid defeat after a long and tiring European game in Piraeus last Thursday. At the bottom of the table, 5 clubs can still be relegated just 2 days from the end: Lokeren, STVV, OH Leuven, Mouscron-Péruwelz and Westerlo.

Who grabs the final ticket for Play-off 1?

Club Brugge and AA Gent have 58 points now. Anderlecht are in 3rd position, 6 points behind (52), followed by KV Oostende (46) and KRC Genk (45). These 5 teams are guaranteed a ticket for Play-off 1. The final ticket will go to Zulte Waregem (40), Standard (38) or Charleroi (38).
