Ostend scoops Belgian basketball cup

BC Oostende’s win in the final of the Belgian Basketball Cup on Saturday evening means that the club has set a new record. It was the fourth year in a row that the West Flemings have won the basketball cup. This time around it was the turn of the Antwerp Giants to take a beating from the Ostend team.

Speaking after the victory the BC Oostende player Jean Salumu told VRT Sport “We were the best team on the pitch”. Meanwhile, a disappointed Antwerp Giants Coach Roel Moors said “Our finishing was very poor”.

There wasn’t a spare seat in the house at the Vorst Nationaal events hall for the Basketball Cup Final on Saturday
The first quarter provided the spectators with some exciting basketball. BC Oostende was soon 9 points up. However, some accurate attacking brought the Antwerp Giants back to within a point.

However, it was not to be for the Antwerp Giants. Their attack started to lack accuracy, while BC Oostende had grown wings. The match ended 74-52 in BC Oostende’s favour.
The Ostend team’s Boukichou (15 points and 8 rebounds) put in an especially good performance and was declared man of the match.
