Olivia Borlée will carry the flag in Rio

The sprinter Olivia Borlée will carry the Belgian flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games at the Maracaña Stadium Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening. The Belgian Olympic Committee (BOIC) announced that the 30-year-old from Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe (Brussels) will be our country’s flag bearer on Friday.

Olivia Borlée will be taking part in the 200 metres sprint competition at the Rio games. She took silver with Kim Gevaert, Elodie Ouedraogo and Hanna Mariën in the 4x100 metres at the 2008 Olympic Games in Peking.

Team Belgium’s Head of Mission Eddy De Smedt will give more details at a press conference to be held in Casa Belgium on Friday. Four years ago in London Tia Hellebaut, who won gold in the high jump at Peking, carried the Belgian flag during the opening ceremony.
