Red Lion’s gain a place in the semis

The Belgian national men’s hockey team has put in yet another strong performance to make it through to the semi-finals of the hockey tournament at the Olympic Games in Rio. The Belgians came back from being a goal down to win their quarter final game against India by 3 goals to 1. India opened the scoring at the end of the first quarter through Akashdeep Singh.

Nevertheless, the Red Lions played a strong second quarter and it was clear that the game was far from over. Belgium’s equaliser came from Sébestien Dockier early in the third quarter.

10 minutes later Dockier put the Belgians 2-1 up. A goal from Tom Boon in the fourth quarter made it 3-1 to Belgium and put the game beyond India’s reach.

Our men’s hockey team will face stiff opposition in the semi-finals in the shape of the winner of the quarter match between the Netherlands and Australia. The Netherlands and Australia are ranked second and first respectively among the world’s hockey nations.
