Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge tied

In football, the clash between league leaders Zulte Waregem and defending champions Club Brugge ended all square (0-0). The high expectations for the West Flemish derby were not met in a disappointing game. Racing Genk managed to beat Westerlo 2-1, moving closer to the top-6.

For the occasion, Zulte Waregem enjoyed a record number of fans for a home game, with an attendance of 12,000. Zulte Waregem had built a new grandstand last summer. However, the many spectators were left empty-handed in a poor game with hardly any goal-scoring opportunities. Club Brugge had two, Zulte Waregem had one.

Commentator Peter Vandenbempt concluded that "a 0-0 is the only right outcome after a match like this." Anderlecht may move alongside leaders Zulte Waregem if they manage a win at Waasland-Beveren tonight.

In other action, Racing Genk posted a home victory against modest Westerlo (bottom photo), although things got tight in the end when the visitors pulled one back in the final 10 minutes. Eupen threw away a lead against Sporting Lokeren - now under new coach Runar Kristinsson (2-2) - and Sint-Truiden held Charleroi to a draw (2-2) in a battle between the Canaries and the Zebras.
