LGTBIQ tunnel in Antwerp: a world first soon

The city of Antwerp is looking forward to the Antwerp Pride event that will take place from 8 to 12 August.  For two days this week a pedestrian tunnel, the MAS museum and the Central Station were all lit up in the colours of the rainbow flag.  In August too this will be repeated.

The city's diversity alderman Fons Duchateau hopes that the tunnel can at least be lit up in this way on a permanent basis, but technically this is not possible at the minute.

This week's illumination formed part of an LGTBIQ politeness campaign.  Fons Duchateau: "Reactions were enormously enthusiastic.  We will repeat the experiment during the Antwerp Pride.  If reactions remain so positive, we'll have to look at permanent illumination after the elections.  A tunnel permanently illuminated in the colours of the rainbow flag would be a world first!"
