300 naked cyclists on the streets of Brussels

Around 300 cyclists took part in a cycle ride through the centre of Brussels on Saturday afternoon. While cyclists in the capital are no longer a rarity, Saturday’s Cyclonudista event was exceptional to say the least as all the participants were in the altogether.

The organiser of Cyclonudista Jérôme Jolibois told journalists that "For being naked is important, a nudity symbolises freedom”.

"Often accidents happen because people haven’t seen us. This time we will be seen”

The cyclists set off at 3pm from the Frère-Orban Square in Uptown Brussels. They passed by the headquarters of the European Commission, cycled through the Jubel Park and on to Downtown Brussels via the Poelaertplein, the Zavel and the Stock Exchange.

The aim of Cyclonudista is to demand more space for cyclist in public places.

"Cycle lanes where they are needed, notably along major roads. What we above all want are more shared spaces. For example pedestrian zones where cyclists are welcome, avenues where cyclists are welcome…”, Mr Jolibois added.
