"Ghent Panamanians” to take on the Red Devils

Two young footballers that play in for the reserves of the Belgian First Division side AA Gent are in Panama’s squad at the World Cup in Russia. One of the two youngsters is certain to be in Panama’s starting line-up for this evening’s match against our national team the Red Devils.

José Luiz Rodríguez and Ricardo Ávila both play for AA Gent. Although they play for the reserves at club level they were both selected for the Panamanian national team squad for the World Cup. José Luiz Rodríguez is certain to play on Monday evening. Ricardo Ávila (better known as Pepe) will have to wait and see as he will start on the substitutes’ bench.

The Assistant-Coach of AA Gent’s reserve team Etienne De Wispelaere told VRT Radio 2 that he will be supporting his players. Everyone assumes that the World Cup debutants Panama pose no threat to the Belgians. However, Etienne De Wispelaere believes that the Belgians can be best on their guard.

"What with the heat and with a team that is playing the match of its life”.

"I am supporting Belgium, but it would be a great pick-me-up if José plays a good match. My prediction is 5-2 with a goal scored by a header from José and a long-range shot from Pepe. My heart will beat more quickly when they are on the ball”.
